Go with the (work)flow and discover Summa's 4 unique laser cutting technologies

Everyone’s production workflow is unique. To accommodate these differences, Summa offers a range of laser cutting technologies so you can choose the one that best fits your needs! Here’s a brief overview of the various options Summa provides.

A small note before we begin: the Head Camera is standard on the L1810 laser cutter, and the Vision Camera is standard on the L3214 laser cutter. However, upgrading the L1810 to a Vision Camera is possible.

1. Continuous Cutting with Cut-On-The-Fly

Traditional laser cutting workflows can be time-consuming: first, the job is scanned, then the media is fed through, and finally, the fabric is cut into the desired shapes. Repeat. With Cut-On-The-Fly, those three steps are seamlessly integrated into one big continuous process.

  • How it works: When the first part is scanned and fed forward, cutting starts. At the same time, the next part is already being fed and scanned. This efficient, time-saving process allows for non-stop cutting until the job is complete.

This feature can be used alongside our other laser cutting technologies: Trace & Cut, Cut-To-Frame, and Barcode Workflow. To use this fast and efficient cutting technology, you need our Vision Camera system and our software the GoProduce Laser Edition.

2. Perfectly Fit Visuals into frames with Cut-To-Frame

Typically, the original design can deform in the printing process. When you cut those prints traditionally, those deformations can negatively impact your final product by causing the image to be out of alignment. This is especially the case when creating Silicone Edge Graphic frames for retail store décor or trade shows. That’s where Cut-To-Frame comes into play.

Cut-To-Frame is a special compensation mode that takes into account any shrinkage and deformations that could have occurred during the printing process and positions the image relative to the frame, ensuring a tight fit.

  • How it works: The system reads the printed registration marks and calculates the adjustments needed to fit the image into the frame perfectly.

This intelligent cutting feature can be used simultaneously with our Barcode Workflow. All you need is a Vision or Head Camera and the GoProduce Laser Edition software.

3. No Print File Needed with Trace & Cut

When cutting sewing patterns, you will have many different pieces to handle, nesting these parts is crucial when preparing your print and cut files. Trace & Cut optimises and fast-tracks this process.

  • How it works: No cut file is needed. Your designs only need a black line around each cutting object. The camera detects the object, and the software automatically creates a vector file so the laser cutter knows where to cut.

Registration marks are also unnecessary, making nesting easier and less time-consuming.

Trace & Cut is available with a Vision Camera in combination with our GoProduce Laser Edition software.

4. Automate Your Cutting Process with the Barcode Workflow

If you want to automate your cutting process, our barcode workflow is the perfect solution for you! All you need to do is add a barcode to your design that refers to the corresponding cut file.

  • How it works: Once the barcodes are added to your designs, you can cut entire rolls without operator assistance. The jobs don’t even need to be the same; as long as each one has its own barcode, you can automatically cut jobs with different designs one after the other. When the cutter's camera scans the barcode, our GoProduce Laser Edition software automatically retrieves the correct cut file. This process repeats until all jobs have been processed and cut.

To access this feature, you need either a Vision or Head Camera and the GoProduce Laser Edition Pro Pack.
